Someone gave me a potted orchid recently; it's so nice to have flowers in the house.  Sometimes I forget how nice they are to have if you don't normally buy them for yourself.  I love the white, yellow and orange shades of my orchid - fresh and happy.  Just how you'd want people to feel as they walk in your front door.  Don't you think?

Badass Bracelet

Ok, so I went and did what I swore I never would.  I bought skull paraphernalia.  Mind you, it's only a little bracelet or two.  Alexander McQueen is to blame for making skulls fashionable.  I never understood this trend... but in that split second upon accepting a personal dare and slipping the bracelet on my dainty wrist - I got it!  It's the titillating contrast between girly and badass.  And believe me, this is as badass as I get.  But I love that in a passing glance it just looks like a threaded bracelet with gold beads.  But look again my pretties, look again.

Bracelets from Over the Rainbow

imm living

I stopped by Teatro Verde today to see what's new and the Imm Living products caught my eye.  These things are whimsical without being tacky - 'cause you know the thought of a 'giraffe head' container or a 'jackalope' jewelry holder without the visual sounds ghastly!  But for the well decorated house, these are the kind of pieces that evoke conversation and the kind of items you grow to love.  What do you think?  Lovably wacky or terribly tacky?

The Claire Dress

This dress has got me all excited!  I Adore the Sheridan French signature elbow patch on this classic shirtdress.  The ikat print, the gold accessories, the pop of green - perfection!  Also - be sure to check out Sheridan's blog The Southern Eclectic, it's a fun read!

This woman is one hot chick.  I'm loving Gwyneth's recent collaboration with Net-a-Porter showcasing her fashion picks of the season via her weekly newsletter GOOP.  I'll take one of everything with a lottery ticket and a personal trainer.  Yes?

A Fisherman's Love Story

Some fishing stories are a little hard to believe, but this guy has pictures to prove his story…

Tom Satre told the Sitka Gazette that he was out with a charter group on his 62-foot fishing vessel when four juvenile black-tailed deer swam directly toward his boat.

Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking directly at us. We could tell right away that the young bucks were distressed.  I opened up my back gate and we helped the typically skittish and absolutely wild animals onto the boat. In all my years fishing, I’ve never seen anything quite like it!

Once on-board, they collapsed with exhaustion, shivering. We headed for Taku Harbour. Once we reached the dock, the first buck that we had been pulled from the water hopped onto the dock, looked back as if to say ‘thank you’ and disappeared into the forest.

After a bit of prodding and assistance, two more followed, but the smallest deer needed a little more help (that’s him in the wheelbarrow).

My daughter, Anna, and son, Tim, helped the last buck to its feet. We didn’t know how long they had been in the icy waters or if there had been others who did not survive. My daughter later told me that the experience was something that she would never forget, and I suspect the deer felt the same way as well!

Princess Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco

Vogue Paris, September 2011

Fun Facts:  Her maternal grandmother is Princess Grace of Monaco, a.k.a. Grace Kelly!  She's a private citizen but occasionally attends official functions in Monaco.   She's a competitive horseback rider who happens to be Gucci's official 'equestrian' ambassador; her riding clothes are designed by Gucci and worn only by her. ♠  She's a published writer and magazine editor, and has become friends with Stella McCartney after interviewing her for the premier issue of Above Magazine for which Charlotte was editor-at-large in 2009.  Charlotte has since co-founded the ecological/fashion-related Ever Manifesto, a free publication on the fashion industry's harmful impact on the global environment and to promote sustainability in fashion. source Did I mention she's a Princess?  Totally crushing on Charlotte!

Shameless self-promotion alert!  I have been labelled a Superstar!  A crafty one at that.  The kind-hearted folks at Cut Out + Keep came across a photo of my Peace on Earth ornament and asked me if they could feature me as their Crafty Superstar No. 57.  I happily accepted.  If you feel like getting your craft on, head over to see three of my craft project tutorials.  A new project will be published each day.  You never know, maybe something will tickle your fancy!

Wood to Iron

unknown source

I've been thinking about replacing my wood bed with an iron bed for quite awhile now.  This adorable sheer polka dot bed skirt was the catalyst that brought about the urge to go antique iron.  I love the clean, open structure of iron beds - they're the perfect canvas to show off beautiful bedding.  And speaking of,  I'm the proud owner of Diane Von Furstenberg's 'Rainbow Garden' duvet cover (below) and I'm really itching to do it justice.  In due time, in due time!
